If half the battle is showing up then the other half must be GETTING THERE...

Accessibility Transportation is a Necessity

COVID-19 has made all of our lives difficult and even more so for those with accessibility needs. Whether you need companion care or room for your mobility device we can get you to your medical appointments, banking, groceries, and physically distanced social events.

Our intention is to run electric and low emission vehicles to provide access for: wheel chairs, single person mobility scooters, walkers, support dogs, and care team members. Both vans and passenger vehicles will be easily entered and exited by individuals with mobility needs or support services such as companion or care aids.

Accessible Transportation is Costly

The fact is, we need your support to be able to continue to offer wheelchair accessible rides. We have recently launched a fundraising campaign on Wayblaze, a new community fundraising platform designed specifically to support community led campaigns such as ours.

Wayblaze is only able to accept credit card donations, however, if you'd like to donate we can also accept e-transfers, cheques and cash. Legacy donations are also welcome. Please contact us to arrange your donation at info@gettingtherebc.ca.

Testimonials

My brother recently became visually impaired and I live in a different city so it’s been a struggle finding ways to help support him. At least, it was a struggle until I found Maryanne at Care For A Lift. Suddenly, I not only had a driver who could transport my brother safely, but I also had a wonderful advisor and thoughtful companion for him as well. Working with Maryanne has significantly improved the daily life of my sibling and... also mine! Scheduling is easy, communication is excellent, and her compassion is abundant. We feel so grateful and happy to have found Care For A Lift and I just can’t sing Maryanne’s praises loudly enough!

We’re Committed to Getting You There safely!

ABOUT US

Getting There Society is a not-for-profit we formed to provide wheelchair accessible transportation to residents of the Sunshine Coast, BC. Maryanne Brabander operates Care For A Lift and has been providing accessible transportation to residents of the Sunshine Coast for five years. Requests have increased and operation costs accelerate, the current model Care for a Lift offers is no longer sustainable. Maryanne reached out to Ryan Staley of Coastal Rides to see if together they might better address the gap in accessible transportation, which has been a long-time challenge for many residents.

Publicly funded services such as handyDart and Transit buses have been unable to adequately respond to requests for door-to-door service, early morning appointments, or access to family and community services. The resulting gap puts a strain on both individuals, families, and health care budgets.

Getting There Society has launched a fundraising campaign to purchase an accessible van to fill this gap. Your support will play a critical role in keeping accessible transportation on the Coast, now and in the future.
